Plastic Furniture Coverings

Preservation is the name of the game for most oldies. They attempt to preserve their leathery skin by lathering Jergens on every morning while taking 40 pills to keep all the miscellaneous parts running. The fact is that most of the senior class is living on borrowed time; trying to squeeze every drop of life out because their inevitable downward spiral is lurking right around the corner. But what doesn’t make sense is not enjoying the simple things in life while they are still on this side of the ground. The quintessential example of this is plastic furniture coverings.

The elderly somehow enjoy denying themselves the sheer joy of quality furniture. But maybe their motives are more altruistic. Maybe they are hoping that when they pass on we will be smitten to uncover their 1970’s orange and brown floral patterned couch and find it in pristine condition. Perhaps we should be thankful that they deny themselves the feeling of the suede on their favorite armchair or that they endure the slight pain when their elastic skin sticks to the plastic in the summer heat.

But of course maybe the elder folk just sit smugly in their saran wrapped chair taking comfort knowing that their furniture can last an eternity even though they won’t.
