This version is sooooooo much better than the released version. The ending has those November Rain violin dynamics that give us all the chills... while the released ending has those cheesy vocals. This one is far more emotional and real. I would imagine also because it was recorded in 2002... whereas many years passed when she recorded the released version... she had time to let this emotion wear off. This one is far superior.

Fiona Apple released her debut album "Tidal" in 1996. She was 18 when she released the album and the lyrics and song meanings would show that she had the ideas and the soul of a mature adult, and was stuck in an 18 year-olds body. Fiona is a very grown up person for her age. With a strong voice and an open mind she is just getting started in the music industry and already her debut album has left fans and the media to wonder what talent this young lady will come out with next.

Fiona is known for her strong voice and for her talent on the piano. "It wasn't that I didn't think I had a nice voice, but I consider myself more a writer," Fiona says. "I played piano since I was about 8, and always wrote songs. I sang them because it wouldn't make sense for anyone else to,"

"This is something I think I've always wanted to do but didn't say aloud. I wouldn't admit it to myself, because admitting it meant making myself vulnerable to the possibility that it might not happen, and that thought was unbearable. I didn't want to make a move until I knew it was the right thing," Fiona says. "And I wasn't sure until about a year ago."

Fiona grew up with her mother and father. Her father was an actor, and her mom was a dancer, singer, cook, and a fitness instructor. Fiona's mother was a big influence on her while she was growing up.

When Fiona was older she went to LA to spend more time with her father, and to get her high school diploma. While in LA she also recorded a demo of a few songs she had written. With these demo tapes complete, her goal was to try and get her dream of being a big success in the music industry off the ground. For Christmas that year she returned to New York City to be with her family for the holidays. She brought along with her a few of her demo tapes. She gave a tape to one of her friends. It just happened that the friend baby-sat for a producer and manager of a big record company Andrew Slater. The friend gave the tape to him to listen to. He liked the tape and contacted Fiona saying that he wanted to meet and discuss a possible record deal. Fiona agreed and the two met up. Soon after they signed a record deal.

However before they could start, Fiona wanted more time to write more songs. She thought that her collection of songs that she had were not all record quality. "Songs don't just pour out, so I pressured myself to write," Fiona says. "I'd write two songs a week, and I don't know how I managed it because every time I write a song I don't think I'll be able to write another ever again."

When she felt the songs were worthy of an album, she entered the studio and recorded, what we know today as "Tidal". "My album is called Tidal partly because all this has hit me like a tidal wave but also because "tidal" refers to ebbing and flowing, and that's really what life is, a constant ebb and flow."-Fiona says.

In 1999 Fiona released When the Pawn, the second of her two albums. This CD is to be more dark than the first. Well this diva has made a big impact on the music industry, and we can just wait to see what is to follow this second album.

1977-1995: Early life and career beginnings

Born in New York City, Apple is the daughter of singer Diane McAfee and actor Brandon Maggart. After she joked to a friend at the age of 11 that she was going to kill her sister and herself, Apple's parents placed her in therapy. The following year, she was raped by a stranger on her way home from school. She would allude to the trauma years later in such songs as "Sullen Girl", and "The Child is Gone."
Apple broke into the music industry in 1994, She gave a demo tape to the babysitter of music publicist Kathryn Schenker. Schenker then passed the tape along to Sony Music executive Andy Slater. Apple's contralto voice, piano skills and lyrics captured his attention, and Slater signed her to a record deal.

In 1996, Apple's debut album, Tidal, was released by Epic, a subsidiary of Sony. The album went on to sell 2.7 million copies and was certified three times platinum in the U.S.
"Criminal," the third single, became Apple's breakthrough hit. The song reached the top forty on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, while the controversial Mark Romanek-directed music video — in which a scantily-clad Apple cavorted in a '70s-era tract house — became very popular on MTV. Apple later said: "I decided if I was going to be exploited, then I would do the exploiting myself"
Other singles from Tidal included "Shadowboxer," "Sleep to Dream," and "Never Is a Promise." Her public image was tempestuous. Most notoriously, while accepting the 1997 MTV Video Music Award for "Best New Artist" for "Sleep to Dream," she proclaimed: "This world is bullshit, and you shouldn't model your life on what you think that we think is cool, and what we're wearing and what we're saying," referring to the mainstream music industry. Host Chris Rock would comment on her speech later on during the program, saying, "That Fiona Apple was mad, huh? Fiona X was up here." Though her comments were generally greeted with cheers and applause at the awards ceremony, the media backlash was immediate.
However, Apple was unapologetic: "I just had something on my mind and I just said it. And that's really the foreshadowing of my entire career and my entire life. When I have something to say, I'll say it." Stand-up comedian Denis Leary included a satire of this speech on his album, Lock 'n Load, titled "A Reading from the Book of Apple". Janeane Garofalo parodied Apple's comments in light of the fact that her video for "Criminal" seemed to reinforce the same celebrity fixation on weight and appearance that Apple condemned. Apple responded to these criticisms in an article in Rolling Stone in January 1998.
During this period, Apple contributed covers of The Beatles' "Across the Universe" and Percy Mayfield's "Please Send Me Someone to Love" to the soundtrack of the film Pleasantville.
