Meni rir projekcija nije smetala.
As a Fatal attraction kind of film, The talented Mister Ripley is good. It draws you into an unhealthy obsession and makes you want the same things that Tom wants: the wealth, the clothes, the contacts, the lifestyle. Then it scares you with the depth of his obsession, as much as you want Tom to get away with his impersonation you want him to stop before it all goes too far.
As the wheel turns and Tom's schemes become more and more complex, there is an ever increasing sense of doom that lours over his head. Each new plot becomes a step toward some dark fate, each lie, each manipulation buries him deeper and deeper. You know there'll be tears before bedtime.
Matt gives an extremely sympathetic performance, even when he's fetishising Dickie or manipulating Marge or betraying Meredith. The attraction for the life his character can never have is always there, in his eyes, you can see the schemes and plots being hatched and nurtured at every turn. Matt is under Tom's skin all the way.
Jude does the upper class thing that he does so well, taking the dark side of Dickie completely in his stride. He is a self-centred, hedonistic, uncaring and completely attractive chap, one with whom Tom has no choice but to fall in love. Marge is less well drawn, but Gwyneth manages an air of worldly naïveté that carries her through. Cate's poor little obscenely rich girl is a gushing delight, the perfect contrast to Gwyneth's passivity and Jude's ennui.
The talented Mister Ripley is the type of film you'll watch over and over just to enjoy the delicious sense of being pulled into something you desperately need but can't control. Like a roller coaster, there's nothing you can do but hang on until the end.
