Janet Jackson has aired her frustrations with Island Def Jam, whom she claims is no longer supporting her label debut, "Discipline." The album has sold 392,000 copies in the United States since its February release, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
Jackson told SOHH.com that Island discontinued promoting "Discipline" after her single, "Rock With U," failed to chart. Additional friction apparently resulted from Island also releasing "LUV" as a single, despite Jackson's wish that "LUV" be worked on its own.
"Luv" peaked at No. 34 on Billboard's Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, while the first single released from the new album, "Feedback," reached No. 39.
In a statement released exclusively to Billboard, an Island Def Jam spokesperson says, "Unfortunately we haven't experienced the results we would have liked with this new album. But we respect and support Janet."
Jackson further claimed that due to dwindling label support, she won't be able to visit Europe as part of her upcoming Live Nation-promoted Rock Witchu tour, which begins Sept. 7 in Vancouver.

Janet Jackson to kick off world tour
Gay icon promises all the hits, lots of dance
By KEVIN NAFF, Washington Blade | Sep 4, 3:50 PM
Janet Jackson will kick off her long-awaited "Rock Witchu Tour" Sept. 10 in Vancouver, her first tour in more than seven years. Jackson talked to the Blade today about what fans can expect.
"This show is for the fans," she said, adding that she will perform about 30 tracks during the two-hour show. "It's a nice mix from 'Discipline' and all the other albums."
"It's a big show," she said, "a completely different show. It's very much upbeat. The kids say it shouldn't be called the 'Rock Witchu Tour,' it should be called the 'History of Janet Tour.'"
As for the vibe and style of the set, Jackson said she's intrigued by the future so the set design will incorporate futuristic elements. Her costumes will be more elaborate than in the past.
So far, 24 North American dates have been announced, but Jackson said that more U.S. dates will be announced soon and that she's in talks to take the tour all over the world, including possibly Europe, Asia, Australia, Russia and the Middle East.

She has raised her own standards, downplaying the sexual angle for a more athletic show that didn't have a musician in sight.
The emphasis was on action and dance, and seemed more natural to her.
Any show following Janet Jackson into GM Place will find it difficult to match her.
-The opening is very space themed. Lots of extreme lighting and use of the catwalk.
-The catwalk shoots out steam and has lighting around the edges of it.
-Show is featuring the Japanese drummers with the massive mallets!
-Insane Pyrotechnics! They shot fire like forty times only during "Black Cat"!!!
-Janet has picked a fan from up in the side seats, not the floor! He is getting tied up! / He appears to be harnessed to something and the male dancers are picking him up by his feet! / The dancers are making out on stage and Janet is simulating intercourse with the victim! Very risque!
-This is the MOST slutty tour she's ever done. Very extreme.
Janet Jackson's latest choreographed concert spectacle is an aggressive reminder to the world that she is a woman who has risen above fads and scandal (who can forget the famous Superbowl wardrobe malfunction?). It is a reminder that she is a trend-setter in her own right, a true diva, and a marvelous performer.

A fun, glitzy choreographed experience worthy of a woman who's been in show business longer than most of the people in the audience have been alive. Bravo.

But the sparks really flew toward the end of the show when Jackson, dressed in her S&M best, walked the catwalk with her two female dancers, looking for a fan to have a little fun with. They brought him on stage, installed him in a harness and Jackson simulated having her way with him.
She did ride someone on stage. Guys were riding guys on stage, guys and girls, simulated masturbating. i know wot yall are thinkin, its beyond shock value... when janet does stuff like that.... shes so innocent she makes it look friggin sensual and erotic.
The crowd loved it, but all I could think of was Jackson's contention during a phone-in press conference last week that she hoped parents and kids would come to her show together, and make it a multi-generational outing. This was not an act you want your child to see – and not something you want to experience with a parent in tow either.
But wow, what a show. There is sooooooooooooooo much going on, you truly dont know what to look at and when. That said, this is by far the best thing that Janet has done period. I feel like I need to see the show 10 times over to enjoy all dimensions of it.
