Today, the House Education and Labor Committee sent the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA), which provides workplace protections on the basis of sexual orientation, to the House of Representatives for a vote. When the bill hits the floor in a matter of days, Representative Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) plans to offer an amendment to restore protections based on gender identity.
A lot of Congressional jargon, what does it mean? In a nutshell, it means that next week, Congress will decide whether or not to include the entire GLBT community in the final ENDA.
There is not a moment to spare - now is the time for HRC members and supporters to swing into action. You can help by calling your member of Congress today!
Another call, you ask? So many of you have already made calls, sent emails, given money... But that's why it's so important that you take this action now – will you see this fight through to the end?
Call your Representative today, before the vote happens! Then, click here to tell us how your call went.
Here's how:
1. Dial (202) 224-3121.
2. Ask for your Representative's office, then introduce yourself to the staffer who answers and say something like this:
* As a constituent, and a supporter of Human Rights Campaign, I'd like to urge my Representative to support the Baldwin Amendment to the Employment Non-Discrimination Act when it gets to the floor.
3. Tell Human Rights Campaign how your calls went.
For the first time ever, the House of Representatives is poised to vote on employment protections for the GLBT community. ENDA is on the verge of passage in the House - help us turn up the heat for these final days!
