Researchers have known for decades that marijuana can provide an enormous benefit to patients suffering from HIV/AIDS because of its ability to stimulate the appetite and prevent weight loss. However, a new study finds that this magical herb may do more than just give patients the munchies, but it may actually tackle the disease at its core.

An analysis published last week in the journal AIDS Researcher and Human Retroviruses by a team of researchers at Louisiana State University indicates that a daily regimen of THC may have a significant impact on the progression of HIV.

Researchers say that after delivering a daily dose of THC to monkeys for a period of 17-months, the diseased primates displayed a decrease in damaged immune tissue in the stomach -- a common spot for the infection to occur.

“It adds to the picture and it builds a little bit more information around the potential mechanisms that might be playing a role in the modulation of the infection,” says lead researcher Dr. Patricia Molina, head of the school’s Department of Physiology.

These findings are consistent with a 2011 study led by Dr. Molina that points toward monkeys being treated with THC experiencing an overall reduction in infection, as well as improved chances for survival.

At the time, these were unexpected results, clarifies Dr. Molina.

“When we started the study, we thought it was going to increase viral load, we thought it was going to decrease lymphocyte counts much more dramatically, and we did not see that. If anything, it looks like there might be some beneficial immunomodulation, particularly at the early stages of infection.”

For years, there has been much skepticism about the use of marijuana in patients with HIV/AIDS. This is mostly due to speculation that cannabinoids put constraints on the function of the immune system.

Yet, medical experts say they are now enthusiastic to learn more about how marijuana, specifically its effect on the CB2 receptor, can be used as a life saving treatment for those suffering with HIV/AIDS.

Ja je ni legalnu ne bih konzumirala, not my cup of tea. Ali je licemerno dozvoliti alkohol i mnoge druge psihoaktivne supstance, a stavljati zabranu na nesto sto nije nista vise do osusena biljka konoplje.

New Study: Stoners Are Well Educated and Make a Lot of Money

Contrary to the typical stoner stereotype, a recent study shows that the majority of die-hard smokers are well-educated individuals with careers that earn well above-average salaries.

According to the Department of Public Health and Social Services Guam Community Health Assessment, nearly 25% of adults who consider themselves habitual marijuana smokers have graduated from college, while 19% have reportedly dropped out of high school and do not hold a diploma or equivalency.

The report also found that individuals who get high on a regular basis were more likely to earn more money. Nearly 35% of Guam’s stoner society are raking in the big bucks, with annual incomes of more than $50,000, while only 16% claimed yearly earnings of less than $15,000.

Interestingly, the bulk of these successful potheads -- 60% -- reported they started smoking weed somewhere between the ages of 13 and 17. That is a reassuring statistic considering that marijuana use among young people in Guam remains higher than it is for the supposed trouble youth of the United States -- high school toking in Guam is up from 20% in 2007 to 35% in 2011.

The good news for parents across the nation appears to be that even if marijuana use among American teens is on the rise, there is still a relatively good chance that young stoners will graduate high school, get a college degree and move on to a career with an above average earning potential.

Now, it is important to understand that while this report is focused on stone life in Guam, the statistics provide us with evidence that suggest that the average marijuana user does not consist of the burnout pothead personae that is often portrayed in the movies; one that has undoubtedly contributed to a comical, yet, somewhat misguided reputation.

Instead, it indicates what most of us have known all along: that the only danger stoners pose to civil society is being smart and resourceful enough to eventually take complete control of it.

The news: Twenty-three states now allow medical marijuana use, and 11 others have limited allowances for CBD (one of the therapeutic compounds in the plant), and yet the full medical potential of the plant won't be realized in many of these places.

Many new medical marijuana laws limit the number of conditions for which doctors can prescribe marijuana. For example, New York state has the newest medical marijuana law, but lawmakers restricted the treatable ailments list, omitting conditions like brain injury, PTSD and other things that cannabis has been proven to treat.

An insufficient approach. This type of incremental approach toward recognizing the therapeutic value of cannabis leaves behind all those who are currently suffering from excluded illnesses without the benefit of medical marijuana. If cannabis has been proven to treat a disease, why should the people with that disease have to wait until their state decides to include it in its medical marijuana law?

There's enough research to show that many illnesses can be treated with cannabis, and state laws that limit what it can be prescribed for are overlooking it to the detriment of their own residents.

For clarity, here are 22 diseases that can be effectively treated using cannabis, as evidenced by a slew of scientific studies.

HIV: Regular doses of THC can modify T cell count and decrease the damage to immune tissue in infected primates.

Obesity: The prevalence of obesity is lower among cannabis users.

Head and neck cancers: Moderate cannabis users have lower risk of head and neck cancers.

Seizures: Through the anticonvulsant properties of two chemical agents in the plant, cannabis is a highly effective treatment to prevent chronic seizures.

Brain degeneration: Cannabinoids reduce the effects of brain aging.

Brain inflammation: THC and CBD are neuroprotective antioxidants, and are equally or more effective than other pharmaceutical treatments, but without the damaging side effects.

Autoimmune disease: THC may modify DNA to reduce autoimmune reactions like chronic inflammation.

Cancer: Six different cannabinoids combat the growth of cancer cells.

Heart disease: Low doses of THC can help to prevent pulmonary heart disease.

PTSD: Post-traumatic stress disorder causes an imbalance of cannabinoid receptors in the brain, which can be brought to balance using cannabis.

Osteoarthritis: Cannabis reduces the pain caused by osteoarthritis by correcting an imbalance of cannabinoid receptors in the brain.

Crohn's disease: High-THC cannabis has the ability to put Crohn's disease into remission, and is an effective treatment without the negative side effects of traditional steroid treatments.

Diabetes: Diabetics who regularly use cannabis have lower levels of fasting insulin.

Meth-related brain damage: Delta-9-THC reduces the effects of neurotoxicity caused by prolonged methamphetamine use.

Alzheimer's: While existing Alzheimer's treatments target the disease's symptoms, cannabis is a promising therapy to undo its degenerative effects.

Depression: "Across four methodologically diverse samples, marijuana use consistently buffered people from the negative consequences associated with loneliness and social exclusion."

Chemotherapy side effects: Cannabis treats the side effects of chemotherapy, like nausea and appetite loss, without inhibiting the effectiveness of chemotherapy in battling cancer.

Glaucoma: Cannabis reduces intraocular pressure, the effect of the disease that causes blindness.

ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease): Cannabis may correct imbalances in the endocannabinoid system that coincide with neurological degeneration.

Sleep apnea: Cannabis stabilizes the involuntary autonomic nervous system during sleep, reducing sleep-disordered breathing.

Multiple sclerosis: Cannabis extract may lower the frequency of spasms and diminish immobility caused by MS.

Bipolar disorder: This study found that bipolar subjects with a history of cannabis use had better neurocognitive function than those with no history of cannabis use.

The Top 42 Medical Studies That Prove Cannabis Can Cure Cancer

As bills and voter initiatives to legalize medical marijuana spread throughout both the United States and the rest of the world, it’s important to focus on the scientific basis underlying the medical benefits of marijuana use instead of the social, political and legal hysteria that have been attached to it.
Cannabinoids may be one of the best disease and cancer fighting treatments naturally available. More and more patients are seeing success in helping eliminate cancer in a short period of time by using medicinal cannabis oil.
The negative stigma attached to marijuana is due to its supposed psychotropic effects, yet again, there is no such scientific evidence. Arguments against the use of marijuana are usually published in Psychiatric journals, which show no scientific evidence that cannabis is harmful to human health. All psychological evaluations from the intake of cannabis are largely based on assumptions, suggestions and observations.

Below is a list of 42 studies showing that marijuana cures cancer, categorized by the type of cancers being cured in each study. This extensive list only includes articles from credible scientific journals. It is important to note that we’re not only talking about reducing the side effects of chemotherapy, we’re talking about completely curing the cancer itself!

Činjenice o kanabinoidima, Prof Dr Robert Melamede:
(Endo)Kanabinoidni sistem postoji oko šest stotina miliona godina; on je stariji od dinosaurusa. Kanabinoidni sistem se kontinuirano razvijao i njega su preuzimale sve nove životinjske vrste. Ima centralnu ulogu u ishrani.
Sve druge ćelije mozga kanabinoidi štite i leče.
9. Aktivnosti u evolutivno naprednim oblastima mozga počivaju na kanabinoidnim receptorima i dovode do višeg nivoa svesti.
10. Kanabinoidi su pronađeni u belim krvnim zrncima – CB – 2 receptorima. TI receptori uglavnom se nalaze u imunološkim ćelijama i regulišu funkciju sprečavanja zapaljenja.
11. Kanabinoidi štite srce od aritmije.
19. Kanabinoidi proširuju bronhije i astmatičarima olakšavaju disanje. Zbog ravnoteže koja naše telo drži uspravnim, mogu postojati okolnosti kada oni deluju u suprotnom smeru.
20. Kanabinoidi određuju način na koji vidimo budućnost. Kada doživimo rđavo iskustvo mi osećamo strah od budućnosti. S kanabinoidima, naprotiv, mi hrlimo ka istoj. Nesposobnost za promene stoji nasuprot radosnom pozdravljanju budućnosti i promena.
21. Kanabinoidi ublažavaju bolesti jetre i nekontrolisani svrab. Deluju protiv nesanice i depresije – i to već 600 miliona godina.
22. THC u manjim dozama smanjuje strepnju, dok je veće doze mogu izazvati. Pušenje marihuane može da smanji strah. Orlano uzeta, ona prilikom prvog prolaska kroz jetru delta – 9 – THC menja u delta – 11 – THC koja ima pet puta veće psihoaktivno i znatno dugotrajnije dejstvo.
26. Kanabinoidi ublažavaju bol – to se odavno zna. Ipak, tek nedavno smo otkrili molekularne mehanizme bola i kanabinoidnog sistema.
Stoga kanabis treba svima da bude dostupani da ga svi umereno koriste.

20. Kanabinoidi određuju način na koji vidimo budućnost. Kada doživimo rđavo iskustvo mi osećamo strah od budućnosti. S kanabinoidima, naprotiv, mi hrlimo ka istoj. Nesposobnost za promene stoji nasuprot radosnom pozdravljanju budućnosti i promena.

I tu je zamka, bezis
I umorices se i padnes, vreme je zamka
Vremenu mozes pobeci samo ako stanes,
Udahnes rasiris ruke i povuces ka sebi i proslo i buduce.
I nema straha
Vidis,
Staju tek kada padnu.

The Federal War on Medical Marijuana Is Over

USA — Good news for medical pot smokers: The $1.1 trillion federal spending bill approved by the Senate on Saturday has effectively ended the longstanding federal war on medical marijuana. An amendment to the bill blocks the Department of Justice from spending money to prosecute medical marijuana dispensaries or patients that abide by state laws.
“Patients will have access to the care legal in their state without fear of federal prosecution,” Rep. Sam Farr (D-Calif.), a supporter of the rider known as the Hinchey-Rohrbacher amendment, said in a statement. “And our federal dollars will be spent more wisely on fighting actual crimes and not wasted going after patients.”
The Department of Justice last year pledged not to interfere with the implementation of state pot laws, but the agency’s truce left it with plenty of room to change its mind. Earlier this year, for instance, the DOJ accused the Kettle Falls Five, a family in Washington State, of growing 68 marijuana plants on their farm in Eastern Washington, where pot is legal. Members of the family face up to 10 years in jail—or at least, they did; the amendment may now stop their prosecution.
More broadly, the change provides some added peace of mind for pot patients in California, where the DOJ’s pledge appeared not to apply. The Golden State’s 1996 medical pot law, the first in the nation, has long been criticized by the DOJ as too permissive and decentralized.
Medical marijuana activists hailed the amendment’s passage as a landmark moment for patients’ rights. “By approving this measure, Congress is siding with the vast majority of Americans who are calling for change in how we enforce our federal marijuana laws,” said Mike Liszewski, Government Affairs Director for Americans for Safe Access.
The CRomnibus spending bill wasn’t a universal victory of marijuana advocates, however. Another rider aims to prevent the District of Columbia from legalizing marijuana; it prohibits federal funds being “used to enact any law, rule, or regulation to legalize or otherwise reduce penalties associated with the possession, use, or distribution of any schedule I substance.” But Reason’s Jacob Sullum notes that the rider may be moot because DC’s pot law has already been “enacted” by voters—it passed at the polls in November by a 2-to-1 margin.
Whatever the outcome in DC, the appropriations bill is an undisputed win for pot smokers. As Slate’s Josh Voorhes points out, “the District is home to roughly 640,000 people; California, one of 23 states were medical pot is legal, is home to more than 38 million.” In short, Congress has done a bit of temporary weed whacking in its backyard, but it’s acknowledging that stopping the repeal of pot prohibitions by the states is all but impossible.

44 medical studies that demonstrate cannabis can treat cancer

When Richard Nixon declared war on drugs in the early 1970’s one of the not-so-obvious results of this mammoth policy shift was that scientific researchers were set back decades in discovering new cannabinoid-based treatments for serious medical conditions. In just a few decades the U.S. government was able to wipe thousands of years of anecdotal as well as solid scientific evidence of the efficacy of cannabis in treating a wide range of ailments and diseases from our collective medical knowledge.

For those who have spent a considerable amount of time fighting for cannabis law reform it comes as no surprise, then, that our government and pharmaceutical corporations have long fought to keep secret the fact that cannabis can be an effective treatment for certain types of cancer. And we’re not just talking about relieving nausea that comes from chemotherapy and radiation treatment, but actually shrinking or eliminating cancerous tumors.

Here are links to 44 scientific studies that demonstrate the efficacy of cannabis as a cancer treatment. Thanks to reddit user datJedi for compiling this list.

Mladi se brzo "navuku" na nove droge
B. LAĆARAK
B92.net
