BACK TO MATTERS ON THE PITCH
Milan can now concentrate on matters on the pitch after the Rossoneri were officially admitted to the 2006-07 Champions League at the third preliminary round. So, Milan are back in Europe and back in a competition were they have lived through some wonderful and unforgettable moments. However, before the competition reaches the group stages, either Cork City or Red Star Belgrade have to be overcome. It has been a long hot summer so far and as Carlo Ancelotti explained: ’We find ourselves eight points down, playing in the third qualifying round. The season could have gone differently.’ There is therefore plenty of motivation to turn the campaign into a positive and it all starts at the San Siro on August 9.
After UEFA’s verdict that has definitively confirmed Milan in the preliminary round of the Champions League 2006/07, the Rossonero lawyer Leandro Cantamessa has expressed his satisfaction in a telephone link with Milan Channel: ’From my point of view - the lawyer said - there were no alternatives to such decision due to thelack of specific norms. Milan already had been subjected to a disciplinary sanction although, I repeat, it was totally innocent. The decision on the part of the UEFA Emergency Panel to judge our position right until the end has not annoyed us, even if we were not serene as it is never particularly likeable to be waiting on such a decision.’
